Weatherford International plc has announced a strategic agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) aimed at enhancing its digital capabilities and fostering innovation in the energy sector. Under this new collaboration, Weatherford will utilize AWS as its preferred cloud provider to modernize its software and hardware suite.
The modernization effort includes Weatherford's Modern Edge Platform, which integrates advanced software-enabled hardware with the company's control system, Cygnet. This modular solution is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure, allowing customers to update their operations with minimal disruption.
AWS will also assist in developing next-generation technologies to improve Weatherford’s Unified Data Model. This model enables customers to integrate and analyze multi-asset data within a scalable framework, promoting operational efficiency and informed decision-making.
Furthermore, the partnership aims to enhance the WFRD Software Launchpad. This platform provides access to applications built by Weatherford or in partnership with others while ensuring that customers maintain control over their data without being confined to a single application.
Girish Saligram, President and CEO of Weatherford, stated: "We are excited to work with AWS to deliver a comprehensive suite of innovative solutions that enable our customers to drive efficiency and innovation."
Howard Gefen from AWS commented on the collaboration: “AWS capabilities are accelerating Weatherford’s digital transformation and helping the company drive innovation in their digital solutions.”
Weatherford operates in approximately 75 countries with around 18,000 team members across 320 locations globally.
