Uber has announced the early access to fully autonomous Waymo rides in Atlanta for select users who joined the interest list, ahead of a full rollout later this summer.
According to TechCrunch, Uber and Waymo have initiated an early access program in Atlanta, allowing select users who previously signed up for the interest list to experience fully autonomous rides. This initiative marks Atlanta as the second city, following Austin, to offer Waymo's autonomous vehicles through the Uber app. The early access phase is designed to gather user feedback and refine the service ahead of a broader public launch later this summer.
As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the early access program enables selected Uber users to hail fully autonomous Waymo vehicles within a 65-square-mile area encompassing Downtown, Buckhead, and Capitol View. Participants receive $10 in Uber Cash on their first Waymo ride and are encouraged to provide feedback through the app. This feedback will be instrumental in refining the service before its wider public deployment.
According to Uber's official website, the Waymo rides utilize fully autonomous, all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles and are available exclusively through the Uber app in designated areas of Atlanta. Users can rate their trips and share feedback in-app, similar to traditional Uber rides. Uber and Waymo plan to expand the program further as public adoption grows and system performance is validated through this phased rollout.
