Instacart has announced the appointment of Josh Silverman, Chief Executive Officer of Etsy, Inc., to its Board of Directors. The company, which operates as a major grocery technology platform in North America, shared the news on August 15.
“Josh is a proven marketplace innovator with a track record of scaling consumer platforms such as Etsy, Evite, and Skype,” said Chris Rogers, Instacart’s Chief Executive Officer. “His deep understanding of consumer technology, passion for empowering independent entrepreneurs, and commitment to sustainable growth make him an invaluable asset. We’re excited to welcome Josh to our Board of Directors and look forward to working together to expand and deepen the value Instacart delivers across the grocery ecosystem.”
Silverman expressed his enthusiasm about joining Instacart at this stage in its development. “I’m honored to join Instacart’s Board of Directors at such a pivotal moment for the company,” said Silverman. “Instacart has already transformed how millions of people shop for groceries, proving the power of technology to make everyday needs easier. Silverman brings experience from leading various technology and marketplace companies. He joined Etsy’s board in November 2016 and became CEO in May 2017. Before his time at Etsy, he was Executive in Residence at Greylock Partners during two separate periods and held leadership roles at American Express as President of Consumer Products and Services from 2011 to 2015. His previous positions also include CEO roles at Skype (2008–2010) and Shopping.com (2006–2008), as well as executive roles at eBay. Silverman co-founded Evite, Inc., serving as CEO until its sale in 2001. In addition to his new role with Instacart, he serves on Shake Shack Inc.’s board.
Silverman holds a B.A. in Public Policy from Brown University and an M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
