Most Uber drivers affirm the enjoyment they get from their full-time independent job despite a few not-so-good experiences with some passengers.
One driver explained that approximately 4 out of 5 of her passengers have been a pleasure to deal with.
"I have had really good passengers," Princess Monteiro, a full-time Uber driver said. "I'd say 80% of them are absolutely amazing. I have had passengers offer me dinner; given me large tips because they find something amazing about me. I've had passengers be encouraging and supportive. It's like a sense of like a fraternal thing with my passengers, they're pretty much good energy."
According to PYMNTS, nearly 76% of gig workers would not leave gig work if offered a full-time job.
Gig economy statistics from 2021 provided by the MBO’s State of Independence show that "many of those quitting full-time work are drawn to independent work by the work/life flexibility, autonomy, and control it provides." In fact, "77% are highly satisfied, the highest level of satisfaction in our 11 years of data", MBO partners stated.
Transportation-based services and asset-sharing platforms are valued at nearly 90% of the gig economy: 57.8% and 30.3% respectively. An impressive compound annual growth rate of 17.4% has been revealed by Brodmin in its “Gig Economy – The Economic Backbone of the Future?” case study. Brodmin found that the output of the global gig economy has been $204 billion four years ago and is projected to be at $455 billion USD by 2023.
In the 2018 Edison Research report, The Gig Economy, 51% of gig workers say they work harder for their income than those who work a traditional job.
