Grubhub recently announced a donation to a New York charity organization in the wake of the Buffalo mass shooting.
David Tovar, SVP of communications and government relations at Grubhub, took to Twitter to make his announcement.
"Grubhub is about building connections and supporting communities in ways they need it most. Right now, East Buffalo needs long term support that drives change after the cameras leave. We hope $25,000 to @FeedMoreWNY helps. A small piece of what must become a greater change," Tovar wrote in a May 23 Twitter post.
On May 14, an 18-year-old man traveled more than three hours to a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, where he shot four people in the parking lot, before entering the store and shooting nine more people, ABC News reported. Ten people died in the shooting. The supermarket was located in a predominantly black neighborhood, and authorities believe that the shooting was racially motivated.
Tops Friendly Market, where the shooting took place, was located in a food desert, according to Buffalo News. The tragedy exacerbated some residents' challenges in finding food nearby, but organizations and other members of the community have been working together to provide meals for those in need.
“Our community is grieving, but our community truly is the city of good neighbors and we have shown up for each other in ways that are incredible,” Catherine Roberts, president of the Resource Council of WNY said, as reported by Buffalo News. “We are Buffalo strong.”
FeedMore WNY is a nonprofit organization that offers resources such as nutritious food and skills training to western New York residents in need, according to their website. The organization strives to alleviate hunger through their food bank distribution center, a meal delivery program and by partnering with other hunger-relief agencies.
