The delivery service DoorDash is adding new features to increase the security and comfort of its users.

Reduced rider notifications, a request that customers refrain from texting while delivery people are driving, and the implementation of a one-tap messaging system for simple communication are among the changes. Additionally, DoorDash is streamlining the process for canceling an order and adding a feature that allows new riders to make a demo delivery to get a feel for the system.

DoorDash is making an update to its iOS app that will send fewer notifications to delivery personnel while they are traveling. Other notifications will be muted, but alerts for problems like altered delivery addresses, customer messages or reassigned orders will still be sent. This feature is now available to all riders using iPhones, and it will soon be made available to Android users as well.

DoorDash has also added a prompt in the app to encourage users to refrain from texting delivery personnel while they are driving. In addition, the business is experimenting with a one-tap messaging system for delivery personnel that works similarly to smart replies in email and messaging platforms and makes it easier to cancel an order.

The safety of delivery personnel is a persistent concern, and various legislative solutions have been put forth globally. Safety features like a toolkit for riders and access to the DriveWell Go app, which gives drivers insights into their driving performance, have already been added by DoorDash.
