Paris-based TechBio company Owkin has announced a collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to revolutionize drug discovery, expedite clinical trials, and develop AI diagnostics. By leveraging AWS's global infrastructure and secure cloud platform, Owkin aims to enhance data operations, optimize research in precision medicine, and unlock new possibilities for its initiatives.

The collaboration between Owkin and AWS aims to accelerate innovation in biotech through the use of high-performance computing and machine learning tools. By integrating Owkin's specialized research and development in biotech with AWS's secure and scalable cloud infrastructure, Owkin will be able to meet its storage needs, develop generative AI applications, and build and adapt foundation models.

To achieve these goals, Owkin will utilize Amazon SageMaker to build, train, and deploy machine learning models. This will allow for the optimization of data processing at scale and the advancement of AI solutions in partnership with research partners, pathology labs, and biopharma.

Dan Sheeran, General Manager of Healthcare and Life Sciences at AWS, expressed excitement about supporting Owkin's journey to lower costs and discover better treatments. He stated, "We are excited to support Owkin in their journey to lower costs and discover and develop better, more targeted treatments faster with flexible, secure, and scalable infrastructure and fit for purpose generative AI tools."

Owkin will leverage AWS's high-performance, cost-effective, and scalable infrastructure, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) UltraClusters, powered by NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs. These instances will enable Owkin to scale up to 20,000 H100 GPUs for on-demand access to supercomputer-class performance, reducing the time-to-train machine learning models from days to hours.

In addition, Owkin is looking to experiment with AWS chips purpose-built for the cloud, such as AWS Trainium and AWS Graviton, to further enhance its capabilities in AI research.

As a part of the collaboration, Owkin will have full control over its data, ensuring data encryption and residency guardrails to maintain data privacy and security. This aligns with the AWS Digital Sovereignty Pledge and allows Owkin to continue building strong and secure partnerships while generating and collaborating with high-quality data.

Owkin will also benefit from AWS's comprehensive compliance controls, supporting 143 security standards and compliance certifications, to meet regulatory requirements worldwide.
