Legendary screenwriter, director, and producer Walter Hill has been announced as the recipient of the Writers Guild of America West’s 2024 Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement. Hill, known for his work on iconic films such as The Warriors and 48 Hrs., will be honored for his significant contributions to the world of screenwriting.

"Walter Hill's impact on our industry is undeniable,” stated WGAW President Meredith Stiehm. “His unique style influenced and educated generations of screenwriters who followed. He has had an enduring, renowned career, and the Guild is honored to present him with the Screen Laurel Award."

Hill's illustrious career began in the early 1970s with notable screenplay credits and eventually led to his directorial debut with Hard Times in 1975. Over the years, he solidified his reputation as one of the foremost action filmmakers in Hollywood with projects like The Long Riders, Geronimo, and Wild Bill.

In addition to his directorial work, Hill also received acclaim for his writing on films such as Streets of Fire, Red Heat, and The Assignment. His diverse body of work encompasses a wide range of genres, showcasing his versatility and talent as a storyteller.

Hill's achievements have not gone unnoticed, with accolades such as the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the Venice International Film Festival and various awards for his contributions to the western genre.
