DoorDash has announced its plans to expand alcohol delivery in 2023, a move aimed at providing Dashers with increased income opportunities and positively impacting local communities. The company's services have now reached 32 states across the country, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
According to a press release by DoorDash, almost one million Dashers completed their first alcohol delivery last year, creating new earning opportunities. In 2023, Dashers made nearly 20% more on alcohol deliveries compared to those without such deliveries. As part of its commitment to safety, DoorDash upgraded its alcohol safety compliance module for Dashers. This upgrade offers more detailed guidelines on alcohol delivery, including proper ID scanning protocols and methods for identifying fraudulent IDs.
The Delivering Alcohol Guidelines webpage provided by DoorDash outlines the requirements for Dashers delivering alcohol orders. They must be of legal drinking age and possess a valid government-issued ID. Furthermore, they are required to complete state-specific education modules accessible through the Dasher app. Dashers must verify the presence of alcohol in an order, follow specific delivery instructions including scanning the customer's ID and verifying their identity before handing over the alcohol. They must also refuse delivery to underage or intoxicated customers in compliance with legal requirements and DoorDash policies.
According to the same source, unlawful alcohol delivery can result in fines, jail time, and civil lawsuits seeking damages for personal injury or property damage. Additionally, DoorDash may take remedial actions against offenders, including deactivation from the platform.
