According to a press release by Lyft, the company is extending its Green mode service to riders in 22 cities and 40 airports. This feature, which enables users to request electric or hybrid vehicles, was initially launched for Lyft Business customers in 14 cities. The expansion is part of Lyft's efforts to make its platform more sustainable by facilitating drivers' transition to electric vehicles.
Lyft's Green mode will now be available in new cities including Austin, New York City, Chicago, Washington D.C., Denver, Spokane, Los Angeles, Orange County, Portland, Phoenix, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Seattle, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Sacramento and counties of Napa and Sonoma. It will also be introduced in Tacoma, Edmonton, Vancouver, Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Furthermore, it will be accessible at several new airports such as Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Nashville International Airport among others.
Audrey Liu - Lyft’s executive vice president of rider experience - said in a press release by Lyft: "Electric and hybrid vehicles are incredibly popular. More than 20% of rides on the Lyft platform are currently in a ‘green’ vehicle. We intend to keep growing that number. With Green mode in dozens of new cities and airports, we’ve made it easier for riders to choose lower-emission trips wherever they need to go."
Founded by Logan Green and John Zimmer in 2012 with the aim of enhancing people's lives through high-quality transportation services; today Lyft serves approximately 95% of the U.S. population along with certain Canadian cities. According to the company's Indeed webpage; Lyft aims to offset carbon emissions from all rides while promoting transportation equity through shared rides; bike-sharing systems; electric scooters; and partnerships with public transit.
