Airbnb announced that interest in the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 is leading to bookings during the event in Paris having surged by 400% compared to the previous year. Paris has emerged as the top-searched city on the platform during the games, leading to available listings in the Paris area rising by 40%.
According to Airbnb, smaller towns like Saint-Denis, Chateauroux, and Lille are experiencing increased interest due to the decision to host Paris 2024 across France. American travelers lead in booking stays related to the Olympics, followed by visitors from other key sporting nations such as the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. Bookings for the event have come from over 160 countries, with Americans booking more than 20% of stays in or near host cities. Local families are also leveraging this opportunity, with Airbnb stays expected to generate economic benefits, including nearly 1 billion euros.
"Airbnb will play an important role in accommodating the increased influx of visitors coming for the Games, providing varied and affordable lodging options and supporting overall economic growth in areas that haven’t always benefited from tourism," said Clément Eulry, country manager for France and Belgium at Airbnb, according to a press release by Airbnb. "The Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 highlights how Airbnb helps disperse travel and spreads economic benefits by allowing people to stay in local neighborhoods, close to Olympics venues like Saint-Denis or smaller cities like Chateauroux."
