Uber has announced enhancements to its app, introducing new features aimed at improving accessibility and inclusivity. These updates aim to create a platform that supports diversity and inclusion for drivers and riders of all abilities.

According to a press release by Uber, the company has introduced several new features such as flashing and vibrating alerts for delivery requests, along with text-only messaging options that prioritize in-app communications over phone calls for deaf and hard-of-hearing drivers and couriers. These enhancements are complemented by customer notifications that inform users when their courier is deaf or hard of hearing, promoting better interaction during deliveries. Drivers and couriers can adjust these accessibility settings through the app's Accessibility menu, allowing for personalized preferences to suit individual needs.

Additionally, Uber has expanded its Reserve WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) service in Austin, allowing riders to schedule wheelchair-accessible vehicles up to 90 days in advance. Certified drivers assist passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle, with plans to extend this service to more cities soon. Moreover, Uber has updated its rider trip history to include canceled trips by drivers before pickup, aiming to facilitate the reporting of service denials and other issues for investigation. Auto Translations in in-app messaging to support over 50 languages were also enhanced, improving communication between riders and drivers.

Uber is a technology company established in 2008 that operates a global platform connecting users with transportation and delivery services through a mobile app. Its mission is to make movement accessible and efficient, offering ridesharing and delivery of goods from meals to prescriptions. The company utilizes safety measures such as thorough background checks for drivers. Uber aims to provide convenient mobility solutions while partnering with communities worldwide to enhance local transportation options.
