DoorDash announced new initiatives to assist policymakers with oversight and enforcement, starting in Boston. These initiatives aim to enhance collaboration and efficiency in processing legal requests and improving safety.
According to DoorDash, the company has established a streamlined process for law enforcement to collaborate with its Law Enforcement Response Team. This includes a dedicated escalation channel with the Boston Police Department to facilitate quicker processing of valid legal record requests. This initiative may include revoking platform access for those violating traffic laws.
Prospective Dashers must verify their identity with a valid government ID and pass a background check using their Social Security Number. This includes a review of criminal history and motor vehicle records. DoorDash also reruns background checks for thousands of Dashers weekly. If a Dasher cannot pass a background check or verify their identity, they are not allowed on the platform. Additionally, Dashers must re-verify their identity weekly by submitting a real-time selfie matched to their government ID to prevent account sharing and unauthorized access.
In partnership with cities like Boston, DoorDash will launch a public safety announcement campaign to provide Dashers with resources and tips on local regulations and safety. This campaign will emphasize compliance with local laws and warn against violations, reminding Dashers that failure to adhere to these standards may result in removal from the platform.
