Amazon has announced an expansion of its AWS Workforce Development program, aiming to address skills gaps in the technology sector by partnering with local businesses and offering training. The initiative targets areas with AWS data centers to enhance local economies and job opportunities.

According to a news release by Amazon, partnerships with companies like Team Fishel are part of these workforce development efforts, which focus on building skilled communities. These initiatives aim to provide job opportunities for local talent while meeting AWS's infrastructure needs.

"AWS fills the gap, the 'we need it now' gap, by offering opportunities that are not occurring within traditional education models," says Craig Mathes, vice president of safety and human resources at Team Fishel, an AWS partner in infrastructure regions.

The AWS Workforce Development program is designed to equip individuals with skills necessary for adapting to the rapidly changing technological landscape. Through initiatives such as cloud career training and public sector collaborations, the program seeks to help workers transition into in-demand roles and support economic growth in various communities.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is described as a comprehensive cloud platform offering over 200 services, including infrastructure technologies and emerging solutions such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. In addition to its cloud services through AWS, Amazon offers a variety of other services including online and in-person shopping, delivery of fresh produce, media distribution through platforms like Alexa and Fire TV, logistics operations, customer service solutions, and entertainment via Amazon Originals, Prime Video, and Audible.
