Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., has announced the opening of its AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) Region. This new development aims to provide developers, startups, enterprises, and public sector organizations with more options for running applications and serving end users from AWS data centers in Thailand. As part of its long-term strategy, AWS plans to invest over $5 billion in the country.
The construction and operation of this new region are expected to contribute approximately $10 billion to Thailand's GDP and support an average of over 11,000 full-time-equivalent jobs annually across various sectors. "I would like to extend my appreciation to Amazon Web Services for investing in the development of data centers in Thailand," said Paetongtarn Shinawatra, prime minister of Thailand.
Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at AWS, noted that "this new AWS Region in Thailand will help customers across all industries deploy advanced applications with a broad set of AWS technologies."
The launch adds three Availability Zones in Thailand to AWS's global infrastructure network. These zones are designed for business continuity while providing low latency for high availability applications. With this addition, AWS now operates 111 Availability Zones within 35 geographic regions worldwide.
Thai businesses such as Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited and Charoen Pokphand Group are already leveraging AWS services for digital transformation and operational efficiency. "As our strategic cloud provider, AWS plays a critical role in driving the Krungsri cloud program," stated Pochara Vanaratseath from Bank of Ayudhya.
Additionally, public sector entities like the Big Data Institute are utilizing AWS infrastructure for projects aimed at transforming Thailand into a data-driven nation. Dr. Tiranee Achalakul from BDI expressed excitement about migrating their Health Link service to local AWS data centers.
AWS continues its commitment to sustainability and aims for net-zero carbon operations by 2040 as part of The Climate Pledge. The company is working on increasing energy efficiency across its data centers globally.
