The popular series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" will return for a third season, according to an announcement by Prime Video. Preproduction has commenced, with filming scheduled to start in the spring. A specific premiere date for Season 3 has not yet been disclosed.
Since its debut, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has garnered over 170 million viewers globally and remains one of Amazon's key attractions for new Prime membership sign-ups.
Set in Middle-earth's Second Age, thousands of years before J.R.R. Tolkien’s "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings," the series features Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, and Charlie Vickers as Sauron. The second season concluded on October 2, 2024, with a dramatic finale where Galadriel pledged to pursue Sauron alongside a hesitant Elrond while Sauron sought his own allies. Other plotlines included the fall into shadow of Khazad-dûm, a Harfoot's journey to Rhûn with a giant companion, and Númenor's increasing instability.
Season 3 will advance several years from these events, focusing on the peak of the War of the Elves and Sauron. During this period, Sauron endeavors to create the One Ring to gain supremacy in the war and ultimately dominate Middle-earth.
