Most homeowners appreciate a well-maintained lawn, but achieving this requires time and effort. While technology cannot solve every problem, it can assist homeowners in their lawn care efforts through various apps designed for do-it-yourself enthusiasts.

A survey of 155 homeowners revealed their preferred DIY lawn care apps. PlantSnap emerged as the most popular choice among participants, with 62 individuals naming it their favorite app. PlantSnap allows users to identify over 600,000 types of plants and engage with a community for plant verification.

Rain Bird's app was the second most favored option, praised for its smart irrigation system that adjusts watering schedules based on weather forecasts and seasonal changes. It offers remote control capabilities and compatibility with several controller models.

The My Lawn app by Scotts ranked third in popularity. It provides customized care plans tailored to local weather conditions and specific lawn needs, offering reminders for essential tasks like watering and mowing.

Other notable mentions include Lawn Care Journal, which helps users log and schedule lawn maintenance activities; YardMastery, known for personalized care plans and tips; and TurfPath, which aids in identifying lawn diseases and pests while connecting users with turfgrass managers.

The survey also explored the cost-effectiveness of DIY lawn care versus hiring professionals. On average, homeowners could save $270 annually by maintaining their lawns themselves. However, recouping initial equipment costs could take nearly seven years.

For those reconsidering the DIY approach due to time or effort constraints, GreenPal offers assistance in finding suitable lawn care services within 24 hours.
