As the job market undergoes significant changes, FlexJobs has released a report analyzing current workforce trends. The 2025 State of the Workplace Report highlights that nearly 70% of U.S.-based professionals have either changed or considered changing careers in the past year. This data comes from a survey conducted by FlexJobs between February 4 and February 18, 2025, involving over 2,000 participants.

The report indicates a strong demand for remote work options among workers. When this demand is unmet by employers, many are willing to change careers to secure remote positions. Toni Frana, Lead Career Professional at FlexJobs, commented on the findings: “This data suggests a workforce that’s very much in flux, with the majority of people actively contemplating or making changes to their professional lives.”

FlexJobs' survey also found that one-third of respondents have considered quitting or have already quit their jobs in the last six months. Specifically, 18% are considering quitting their current job, while 15% have recently left their positions.

The leading causes for this trend include high competition for jobs and lack of remote work options. Additionally, more than half of respondents know someone who has quit or intends to quit due to return-to-office mandates.

Frana noted that "many workers are reconsidering their priorities and exploring new skills, industries, and career paths." This reevaluation is driven by a desire for long-term career satisfaction rather than immediate job dissatisfaction.

Remote work remains a critical factor when considering new job opportunities. More than one-third (37%) of respondents identified remote work as the leading factor when contemplating a new position—12% higher than those who prioritized salary and benefits.

FlexJobs’ findings mirror its previous reports which emphasized better pay, flexible work options, and healthy company cultures as key factors promoting employee retention.

In conclusion, workplace flexibility continues to be crucial for many professionals navigating today's evolving job market. As employees seek roles that align with their values and offer desired working conditions, companies may need to adapt to retain talent effectively.
