Amazon Web Services (AWS), part of Amazon.com, Inc., and Safran, a major player in the aeronautics, defense, and space industries, have unveiled a strategic collaboration. This partnership aims to fast-track Safran's push towards technological innovation and digital transformation. Safran's focus on innovation aligns with its objectives of reducing aviation's carbon footprint, enhancing supply chain efficacy, and maintaining operational excellence. The collaboration will leverage advanced cloud technologies and generative artificial intelligence (AI) to address these industry challenges.

Julien Groues, Managing Director of AWS France, noted, "The way Safran is adopting generative AI perfectly illustrates how these advanced technologies can transform the aeronautics industry." AWS, Safran's primary cloud provider since 2021, has supported the company's digital transformation by enhancing its operational agility, while ensuring security standards are met. The next phase involves migrating applications to AWS, adopting modern data platforms, and implementing AI innovations using tools like Amazon Simple Storage Service and Amazon Redshift.

A critical component of this strategy is the deployment of generative AI. Safran is utilizing AWS to integrate AI across various business operations, relying on Amazon Bedrock to access diverse AI models. This approach ensures Safran benefits from the latest AI advancements while maintaining control in a sensitive industrial setting. Safran has already initiated several generative AI projects and is expanding with about twenty additional initiatives.

Frédéric Verger, Chief Digital and Information Systems Officer at Safran, commented, "Our collaboration with AWS enables us to accelerate and industrialize our digital transformation... It promotes rapid innovation and adoption across our businesses. It helps strengthen our operational excellence and address our industry's challenges while ensuring our priority of safety."

Safran, an international high-tech group, operates in aviation, defense, and space sectors, aiming for a more environmentally friendly and accessible air transport system. Safran, registered on Euronext Paris stock exchange, reported sales of €27.3 billion in 2024.
