Every day, survivors of violence face significant challenges, including transportation barriers. In response, Uber has launched a new initiative called Hope Rides in partnership with Alliance for HOPE International. This program aims to assist survivors of interpersonal violence by providing them access to critical support services.
Uber is contributing over $250,000 in ride credits to 15 Family Justice Centers (FJCs) across nine states. These centers will use the credits to help survivors reach trauma-informed care, legal assistance, housing resources, and other essential services.
“Hope Rides is more than transportation—it’s a lifeline,” said Tony West, Chief Legal Officer at Uber. “By meeting survivors exactly where they are, it offers a compassionate bridge to safety, shelter, counseling, and legal support. It’s about empowering each person to take that first courageous step toward healing and hope.”
Transportation remains one of the most common obstacles for those seeking help. Without reliable means to attend appointments or court appearances or reach shelters, many survivors are left without options.
Family Justice Centers offer comprehensive services under one roof and have relied on Uber informally for transportation needs. Hope Rides formalizes this support and expands access.
“Transportation for domestic violence survivors saves lives,” said Casey Gwinn, President of Alliance for HOPE International. “Survivors often don’t seek help because they cannot access the lifesaving services of Family Justice Centers. Uber’s support for no-cost rides for survivors will be the difference between life and death for survivors and their children in 15 Family Justice Center communities in this country.”
Hope Rides aligns with Uber's commitment to improving safety for women and vulnerable populations through technology investments and partnerships with anti-violence organizations.
