This summer, rising temperatures have led travelers to seek relief at beach destinations worldwide. Online searches related to “extreme heat” reached record levels last month, reflecting increased interest in cooler getaways. According to a recent Panterra consumer poll, nearly half of respondents identified the beach as their preferred destination for upcoming trips.
A number of waterfront locations are experiencing a surge in popularity. Saquarema in Brazil saw searches increase by more than 170 percent compared to last summer. Known as Brazil’s “Surf Capital,” Saquarema attracts professional surfers with its renowned Praia das Pedras de Itaúna.
Block Island in the Northeast United States experienced a nearly 160 percent rise in searches over the same period. The island offers visitors scenic bike rides along dune-lined roads, opportunities for seal spotting, and quiet beaches such as Mansion and Coast Guard Beach.
In Spain, Conil de la Frontera on Andalusia’s Atlantic coast reported over 140 percent more searches this summer than last year. The area is known for its variety of beaches, from family-friendly Playa de La Fontanilla to secluded Calas de Roche.
Palermo, Sicily’s capital, saw search activity climb by more than 90 percent this summer. Its coastline features popular spots like Mondello and Capo Gallo Reserve, offering options for both relaxation and water activities.
Hossegor on France’s Atlantic coast recorded an increase of over 70 percent in search interest compared to last year. The area is noted for surfing at La Gravière and longboard waves at Le Penon.
Northumberland in the United Kingdom attracted over 50 percent more summer visitors this year. The region is recognized for its North Atlantic beaches beneath historic castles and peaceful countryside accommodations.
Fukuoka in Japan also reported a growth of over 50 percent in summer searches. The city provides access to numerous beaches including Seaside Momochi and Nokonoshima Island, catering to various recreational interests.
Big Bear Lake in California saw searches rise by nearly 40 percent this season. It offers swimming at McDill Swim Beach, lakeside picnics, and family-friendly activities along its shoreline.
Port Aransas on Mustang Island’s Gulf Coast experienced a search increase of over 20 percent for the season. Visitors can enjoy lifeguarded beaches, sandcastle building, pet-friendly areas, and evening campfires along the shore.
Portland reported nearly a 20 percent uptick in beach-related searches this summer compared to last year. Popular sites include Crescent Beach State Park and Higgins Beach with classic Maine coastal scenery.
