Firstlight, an educational content management platform based in the Philippines, has adopted Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) generative artificial intelligence technology to enhance its eLearning offerings and streamline production processes. The company now delivers interactive content such as dynamic graphics, structured lessons, and short films for subjects including history, economics, and current events. Its platform serves over 30,000 learners domestically and works with more than 1,500 institutions across 80 countries.

By integrating AWS Gen AI services, Firstlight has significantly reduced the time needed to produce full-length documentaries—from two years down to three months. Short explainer videos and training materials can now be created in days instead of weeks. This shift addresses the increasing demand for multimedia educational resources.

Ms. Juhainah Turqueza, Social Studies subject area coordinator at De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, said: “Firstlight has amplified the voice of humanity in the age of AI, nurturing responsible citizenship, socio-cultural sensitivity, and sustainability among our young learners. Firstlight has empowered us to help students think critically and engage meaningfully with the world around them. Through impactful storytelling and the dedicated work of the Firstlight team, our community continues to contribute to nation-building and to bring positive change to society with purpose and heart.”

Research indicates that combining structured text with interactive tools and multimedia elements can improve academic performance. Previously reliant on stock video libraries that often lacked specific scenes—leading to costly filming or traditional animation—Firstlight’s manual processes limited scalability. Transitioning production workflows onto AWS has enabled faster delivery of engaging material while reducing costs.

To further speed up video creation, Firstlight uses Amazon Nova Reel through Amazon Bedrock—a tool that generates photorealistic videos and animations from text prompts or existing assets. Staff can quickly create visual explainers on global topics like volcanic eruptions using natural language commands. These videos are then integrated into course materials for a more immersive learning experience.

“With AWS, we've dramatically improved our content production and reduced timeframes from months to just weeks,” said Chrissie Bellosillo, chief operating officer at Firstlight. “Amazon Nova Reel helps us instantly generate precise, engaging educational content, so we can quickly reach tens of thousands of learners and keep pace with growing demand across the Philippines. The scalability and agility of AWS services have made content creation seamless, helping us meet surging demand with speed and confidence. With AWS, we’re engineering a future in which every student, no matter where they live, has access to high-quality learning—bringing hope to every corner of our country and the world.”

Institutions using Firstlight’s platform can also customize lectures and monitor classroom performance through dashboards built on AWS infrastructure. Real-time analytics highlight student engagement levels and potential learning gaps so educators can address challenges promptly.

Gunish Chawla, managing director for ASEAN Commercial Sector at AWS stated: “The EdTech sector across Southeast Asia is rapidly adopting cloud technology to make quality education accessible and engaging. AWS is proud to empower Firstlight's mission to transform education through the latest Generative AI capabilities. By using Amazon Nova Reel, Firstlight is rapidly delivering high-quality, immersive learning experiences that have raised the bar and set a new standard for innovation and accessibility in the EdTech sector.”
