This fall, travel patterns are shifting as Generation Z travelers show a notable increase in activity during the shoulder season. According to recent data, searches by Gen Z travelers for fall trips have risen by 26 percent compared to previous periods. This demographic is choosing longer international trips more often than Millennials, a trend attributed to the affordability of travel outside peak seasons.

A Focaldata survey indicates that over 80 percent of Gen Z respondents consider affordability an important factor in their fall travel plans, and 42 percent see traveling during the fall as offering good value. Paris has become the top trending destination among Gen Z travelers this autumn, with many seeking budget-friendly experiences. Airbnb offers several experiences in Paris priced under $100 per person, providing opportunities for cost-conscious visitors.

The broader list of trending destinations for Gen Z this season highlights a preference for affordable luxury and vibrant urban environments. These travelers are also drawn to both beach locations and major European cities.

In the United States, Vermont leads as the top-rated destination for viewing autumn foliage based on guest reviews. Other popular states include New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, and Minnesota. The importance of seasonal scenery is reflected in survey responses; 83 percent say that fall foliage influences their choice of destination. To support domestic travelers heading to these areas, Airbnb now allows guests booking eligible U.S. stays to use a Reserve Now, Pay Later feature.

Among highly wishlisted accommodations are an A-frame cabin in Ohio’s woodlands, a country inn in Hudson Valley, a glass tiny house with views in Vermont, a home built with boulders in New Hampshire, and a tiny home with cedar sauna in Minnesota.

Sunseekers are also taking advantage of quieter coastal destinations this season instead of crowded tourist spots. These lesser-known beaches offer relaxation and local charm.

Airbnb recently introduced Airbnb Services earlier this summer—a suite of offerings such as private chefs and personal trainers—designed to enhance guest stays both at properties and at home.

Additionally, Airbnb’s updated Experiences platform features “Airbnb Originals,” which includes unique activities hosted by notable individuals worldwide. Examples range from learning samurai techniques in Tokyo with Kill Bill’s sword master to participating in ballet sessions led by a principal ballerina in New York City.
