This past Labor Day weekend, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Colorado partnered with Uber to offer a limited-time voucher code for discounted rides in the Denver metro area. The initiative aimed to prevent drunk driving during the high-risk holiday period by promoting safe and sober transportation options.
Labor Day weekend is known as one of the deadliest holidays in the United States due to alcohol-impaired driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 490 fatalities in traffic crashes nationwide during the 2022 Labor Day holiday, with 39% attributed to drunk drivers. The promotion by MADD and Uber aligns with broader efforts to reduce impaired-driving fatalities during such periods.
A similar initiative took place this past July in Denver, where Uber and MADD collaborated to offer a 25% discount on up to two rides using the promo code "RIDESAFE2025." This offer was available between July 4 and 7, valid only from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., and capped at an $8 discount per ride. The goal was to encourage safer choices during times of elevated impaired-driving risk.
According to MADD, consumers can add promo codes directly in the Uber app by navigating to the "Wallet" section, selecting "Add promo code," and entering the code—applicable to both new and existing users. This redemption method ensures ease of access and encourages last-mile adoption of safety-oriented codes promoted by public-interest organizations like MADD. Such integration helps reduce friction and maximize uptake during critical periods.
MADD Colorado is the state affiliate of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, a grassroots nonprofit organization made up of families and individuals committed to ending drunk and drugged driving. The organization provides emotional support, victim services, education, and advocacy within Colorado at no charge under its mission to create a "Future of No More Victims."
