Shipt has partnered with Appetite for Change, a nonprofit organization based in North Minneapolis, to address food access challenges and support local communities. Appetite for Change employs and trains youth between the ages of 14 and 18, focusing on using food as a tool to improve health, economic opportunities, and social change.

The collaboration builds on Shipt’s experience in last-mile delivery by leveraging its network of shoppers and drivers to assist Appetite for Change beyond financial contributions. Khadijah Abdullah, Vice President of Culture and Community at Shipt, said, "When we talk about aspiring towards a future with food access for all, regardless of zip code, it requires us to take a deeper look at what's happening across each unique zip code. In some cases, it's not about there not being enough food – the challenge is accessing it. This program represents how Shipt can transform our core strengths in logistics and human connection into a powerful tool for tackling hunger at its roots."

Thomas Toley, a shopper based in Minneapolis who participates in the program, commented on his involvement: “I really enjoy giving back to the community that I deliver in and live in. The community has poured so much into me. This is the community that I grew up in…this is a way I can live my life in a way I need to, while also being able to give back and support my community.”

Princess Titus, Senior Engagement Officer and Co-founder of Appetite for Change, highlighted the impact on families: “Those meal boxes aren’t just meal boxes. Families get locally grown produce, harvested by young people who are being employed and learning a skill.”

Shipt reports that over the past four years it has provided more than 80 Community Impact & Innovation Grants totaling nearly $1.3 million nationwide. These grants have contributed to supplying over 2.8 million meals and serving more than 520,000 individuals facing food insecurity across the United States. The company also operates an accelerator program called LadderUp that offers education about marketplaces, mentorship opportunities, and financial assistance to organizations working with fresh food.

Appetite for Change was established in 2011 by Tasha Powell, Princess Titus, and Michelle Horovitz out of their commitment to Minneapolis’ Northside community.
