Airbnb and Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City (NHSNYC) have announced a multi-year partnership aimed at supporting housing stability and increasing economic opportunities for residents across the city. The collaboration includes a $1 million commitment from Airbnb to fund homeowner services provided by NHSNYC, as well as programs at four of its partner organizations: Neighborhood Housing Services of Brooklyn CDC, Neighborhood Housing Services of Queens CDC, Bronx Neighborhood Housing Services CDC, and Brooklyn Neighborhood Services.
The partnership was introduced during “Reimagining Home: A Community Conversation,” an event that gathered local leaders, Airbnb hosts, entrepreneurs, and community members to discuss New York City’s ongoing housing challenges and explore possible solutions led by the community.
NHSNYC has spent over four decades working to promote affordable homeownership, financial literacy, and community development in New York City. The organization focuses on helping low- and moderate-income families remain in their neighborhoods by providing resources to strengthen communities.
Tonya Ores, Chief Executive Officer of NHSNYC, stated: “This partnership with Airbnb is a powerful investment in stabilizing and strengthening New York City communities. These funds will allow us to provide critical home repair grants to homeowners who are struggling with rising costs—helping to keep them in their homes safely, preserve our aging housing stock, and protect the character of our communities. At NHSNYC, we believe that supporting homeowners is key to keeping neighborhoods strong, and we’re pleased to work with Airbnb to bring real resources to the people who need them most.”
Janaye Ingram, Director of Community Partner Programs and Engagement at Airbnb said: “Airbnb is proud to partner with Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City to support long-term solutions that help residents stay in their homes and strengthen the neighborhoods that make the city so unique. This investment reflects our commitment to working alongside trusted local organizations to expand economic opportunity for everyday New Yorkers.”
The new initiative builds on previous efforts by Airbnb throughout New York State. Earlier this year, Airbnb announced $150,000 in grants through its Community Fund for organizations such as the Adirondack Council and Greater Jamaica Development Corporation. Since 2021, more than $600,000 has been committed via this fund statewide.
In addition to supporting NHSNYC and its partners through grants, Airbnb has provided funding for other housing-focused groups including the Center for New York City Neighborhoods (CNYCN), the New York City Housing Partnership (NYCHP), and Win NYC—the largest provider of shelter for homeless families in the city. These partnerships are part of broader efforts by Airbnb to address both immediate housing needs as well as long-term affordability issues across various neighborhoods.
Jamie Smarr, President and CEO of NYCHP said: “The New York City Housing Partnership has worked for more than four decades to promote strong neighborhoods and wealth creation for New Yorkers through homeownership. We applaud Airbnb’s leadership in providing support for housing stability in partnership with nonprofits throughout the city.”
Christie Peale, CEO and Executive Director at CNYCN added: “We’re pleased to see Airbnb investing in repairs, which our data identifies as a top cause of homeowner displacement. We appreciate today’s major investment in trusted housing partners like NHSNYC to help protect affordability and stability for New Yorkers.”
With growing concerns about housing affordability across the city—and advocates seeking ways both to preserve long-term residences while allowing responsible short-term hosting—the partnership aims at providing support where it is needed most.
