Amazon Pharmacy has reported that it has helped customers save more than $100 million on prescription medications by automatically applying manufacturer-sponsored coupons to eligible orders. This system aims to make it easier for patients to access discounts, especially for expensive brand-name therapies often prescribed for chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity.

According to Amazon Pharmacy, the greatest savings have come from GLP-1 medications used for weight management and insulin for diabetes management. EpiPens, which are used to treat severe allergic reactions, also contributed significantly to overall customer savings. The company credits its collaborations with drug manufacturers for integrating discount programs into its online pharmacy experience.

Tanvi Patel, vice president and general manager of Amazon Pharmacy, said: "For patients, finding and applying medication coupons has traditionally been a tedious, confusing process involving searching online, downloading forms, enrolling in programs, or calling drug manufacturers directly. We believe it should be much easier for patients to find and afford their prescribed medications."

A study cited by Amazon Pharmacy found that patients only used manufacturer-sponsored coupons 15% of the time they were available. The company’s coupon program seeks to address this issue by ensuring eligible savings are applied at checkout without extra effort from customers.

The pharmacy offers additional ways for customers to save on prescriptions. Amazon Prime members can use the PrimeRx benefit for discounts up to 80% off generic and 40% off brand-name drugs at over 60,000 pharmacies nationwide when paying without insurance. Eligible Prime members may also enroll in RxPass—a subscription providing unlimited access to certain generic medications for $5 per month with free shipping.

Amazon Pharmacy accepts most insurance plans and provides free delivery on all orders across the United States. Medication delivery is available nationwide with same-day service in several major cities including Austin, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Phoenix, Orlando, Seattle, Detroit metropolitan area and others.

Customers can have healthcare providers send prescriptions directly to Amazon Pharmacy or transfer existing ones themselves. Once a prescription is on file, medications are shipped in secure packaging with real-time updates provided throughout the process. Pharmacists are available around the clock to answer questions about prescriptions.

Amazon Pharmacy plans further expansion of its automatic coupon program so more patients can benefit from these savings opportunities as they manage their health needs.
