Uber announced on its website that safety is a core company value, highlighting investments, data transparency, and technologies like S-RAD aimed at reducing safety incidents on its platform.

According to Uber's U.S. Safety Report, reports of serious sexual assault on the platform fell by 44% between 2017 and 2022. The company attributed this decline to its safety initiatives, technology investments, and survivor-centered policies. Uber said that transparency in reporting such data is part of its accountability commitment.

Uber disclosed that from 2017 to 2022 in the U.S., approximately 400,000 reports of sexual misconduct or assault were filed on its platform. The company noted that during the same period, 6.3 billion Uber trips took place, meaning the reports represented only 0.006% of all rides. The firm further emphasized that the most serious reports occurred at a rate of 0.00002%, or one in five million trips.

The company clarified that the vast majority of these reports involved less serious, non-physical behaviors such as inappropriate comments or unwanted attention. Many of the 400,000 reports were classified as "unaudited," meaning they had not been reviewed through Uber’s verification process, which filters out misclassified or false claims. Uber explained that only the five most serious categories of sexual assault are included in its published safety data to maintain accuracy and reliability.

Uber Technologies Inc., founded in 2009 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, is a global ride-hailing and mobility company operating in over 70 countries. It also provides food delivery through Uber Eats and freight services. According to its official U.S. Safety Report, Uber was the first rideshare company to release nationwide safety data in 2019 and has since published two subsequent reports to track progress.
