One Medical has launched dedicated visits for perimenopause and menopause, aiming to address a gap in primary care where many providers lack specialized training for this phase of women's health. According to One Medical, about 2 million women in the United States enter perimenopause each year, with another 1.3 million reaching menopause.
The new service connects patients with primary care providers who have expertise in recognizing and treating symptoms related to perimenopause and menopause. The goal is to offer comprehensive and personalized support throughout this transition.
During a 10-month pilot program that began in 2024 in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, over 1,000 patients participated. Results showed that approximately 30% felt more confident after just one visit, while 75% started a treatment plan that included hormone therapy.
Erin Duralde, MD, MPH, MSCP, national director of women’s health and menopause program leader at One Medical, said: "Our menopause-trained providers aren't just treating isolated symptoms—they're considering how hormonal changes interact with other aspects of patients’ health, from cardiovascular risk to bone density to mental wellbeing. This holistic approach allows us to provide more comprehensive and individualized care during this transition."
One Medical's model integrates menopause care within the broader context of primary care. Patients can access same or next-day appointments both in-person and remotely, have longer visits with providers who take time to listen, receive coordination with specialists when needed, and use 24/7 virtual support through the One Medical app.
Appointments for menopause symptoms can be scheduled by selecting the “Peri/Menopause Visit” option on the One Medical app and completing an intake questionnaire. A patient named Sara Pereda shared her experience after struggling with unexplained symptoms in her late thirties.
