Amazon has announced a new lineup of Kindle Scribe devices, introducing several updates aimed at enhancing productivity and the user experience. The refreshed range includes the first color Kindle Scribe, called Colorsoft, alongside redesigned models with and without a front light.
According to Amazon, the new Kindle Scribe features an 11-inch glare-free display designed to mimic the feel of paper. The device is 5.4mm thick, weighs 400 grams, and offers a writing speed that is 40% faster than previous models. The company highlights improvements such as a miniaturized LED front light system for more uniform lighting and narrower bezels, as well as texture-molded glass for better pen friction. A reworked display stack reduces parallax to nearly zero, aiming to make writing feel like it’s directly on the page.
The devices are powered by a quad-core chip and include more memory and updated Oxide display technology for increased responsiveness.
The new Colorsoft model uses custom-built display technology with a color filter and nitride LEDs to produce soft colors that avoid eye strain commonly associated with LCD screens. Amazon says its new rendering engine ensures fast and natural color writing while providing weeks of battery life.
A key addition is an AI-powered notebook that enables users to search notes naturally across notebooks and receive AI-generated summaries or follow-up questions. Other productivity tools include support for importing documents from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, exporting annotated PDFs, sending notes to Alexa+ (a feature expected next year), sharing notebooks with OneNote, multiple pen and highlighter colors, a shading tool for artists, and improved organization through folders.
"Today, we’re thrilled to reveal our new Kindle Scribe lineup, reimagined for productivity: Our next-generation Kindle Scribe with and without a front light, and the first-ever color Kindle Scribe," said Amazon in its announcement.
Additional features include Quick Notes from the Home screen, Recaps for catching up on book series in the U.S., Story So Far for spoiler-free reading recaps, and Ask this Book—a tool that allows readers to highlight passages in thousands of supported books for spoiler-free answers about plot points or characters. These AI-powered reading tools will be available on both Kindle devices early next year and later this year on the iOS app.
Amazon continues to offer access to millions of digital books through its Kindle Unlimited subscription service. Customers purchasing the new devices will receive three months of complimentary access to Kindle Unlimited.
To ensure product durability and safety, Amazon tests its devices at Lab126 in Sunnyvale, California.
