Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to launch an AWS infrastructure Region in Mexico by early 2025. The new AWS Mexico (Central) Region is expected to provide customers with the opportunity to run workloads and securely store their content in Mexico, serving end users with lower latency. Raquel Buenrostro, Mexican secretary of economy, highlighted the significance of this investment, stating, "Cloud services are an essential part of everyday life, helping us to digitally and economically transform Mexico."

Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at AWS, expressed excitement about the company's investment in Mexico, emphasizing their commitment to providing customers with advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning. He stated, "Our investment in Mexico reflects AWS’s long-term commitment to customers so they can take advantage of advanced technologies."

The AWS Mexico (Central) Region is set to consist of three Availability Zones at launch, contributing to AWS's existing network of 105 Availability Zones across 33 geographic regions globally. This expansion aims to cater to customers' data residency preferences, enable lower latency, and meet the increasing demand for cloud services in Latin America.

Emiliano Calderón, head of national digital strategy for Mexico’s government, commended Amazon's investment in the country, emphasizing the collaborative relationship between the government and technology companies. He stated, "Congratulations to AWS on its upcoming infrastructure region, which will be a key driver of Mexico’s digital transformation."

Furthermore, Mauricio Kuri, governor of the state of Queretaro, highlighted the positive impact of AWS's infrastructure expansion in the region, reinforcing Queretaro's position as a leader in Mexico's digital transformation and economic growth.

In response to the announcement, various organizations in Mexico, including Aeroméxico, Banco Santander Mexico, Cinépolis, and Vector Casa de Bolsa, expressed their support for the AWS Region in Mexico. They emphasized the role of AWS in driving innovation, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing customer experiences in their respective industries.

AWS Partners in Mexico, such as XalDigital, also welcomed the new AWS Region, recognizing its potential to accelerate digital transformation and benefit customers across various sectors.

AWS's continued investment in Mexico, including the launch of Amazon CloudFront edge locations, AWS Outposts, and AWS Local Zones, demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting the growth of cloud adoption in the country. Through initiatives like AWS re/Start and AWS Academy, AWS is also focused on upskilling local talent and preparing individuals for careers in the cloud.

As part of Amazon's commitment to sustainability, AWS is dedicated to reaching net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040 and powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025. With the upcoming launch of the AWS Mexico (Central) Region, Amazon continues to expand its global footprint and provide customers in Mexico with access to advanced cloud technologies.
